ASBURY BLOOD DRIVE ON JUNE 8
Have you signed up to give blood on June 8? Do you know that you can help three people with just one blood donation? Would you believe that one out of five people entering the hospital will need blood and every 2 seconds, someone needs blood? Nearly 11,000 people in a day receive blood transfusions. Please consider . . . you need to be 16 or older to give. Our community needs new and returning blood donors. Please give on June 8th. Call Julie Moran at 359-3238 or Dee James at 355-8254 if you have not signed up to give.

SENIOR PIANO RECITAL TODAY
Cresston Gackle, who has been a piano student of Marilyn Mitchem for the past 12 years, will have his senior piano recital at 2:00 p.m. today at Asbury. Everyone is invited, and after the program light refreshments will be served. Please join us!

GARDEN MINISTRY

The Grace Church Garden plot just north of 53rd and Eastern and the Garden west of the soccer fields at Mt. Joy look great except for some weeds which recent rains have given a head start. The weeds in the rows can be taken out with the tillers. However, weeds close to the plants need hand pulling. The more people we can have pull a few weeds, the better the harvest will be. During the next two weeks, we are asking all the volunteers and anyone else who can take a little time to pull weeds between and around the plants to help. This can be done at any time. Just pull them and put them in one of the buckets near the garden.

In addition, we need three volunteers to run or learn to run a Mantis tiller for a few hours a month. If we can get the weeds under control, we should have a great harvest. Your help is needed. We encourage families to take a little time to add to our volunteers if they haven’t helped before. This is a great project to feed the hungry. Many hands make light work. Please give it a try and keep the garden project in your prayers.

Anyone with questions can either see Bill Cameron after first church or call him at 332-4898.

ASBURY LIBRARY
Due to the necessary budget cuts this year, the Library Committee is seeking donations to help with necessary expenses. Asbury’s Library is one of the largest church libraries in the Conference, with more than 6,600 items including children’s, youth & adult sections with fiction and informational books, CDs, DVDs, etc. Monetary donations would be greatly appreciated. You may make your check to Asbury UMC, with “Library” indicated on the memo line. Please be sure to take the opportunity to visit our fine Library and check out books that are of interest to you!

VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL
V.B.S. at Asbury is scheduled for the week of July 19-23, from 9:00 till noon. The theme this year is Group’s “High Seas Expedition”. Children in Preschool through 5th grade, completed, are invited to attend! Applications are available in the church office. There is a $3.00 per child craft fee payable with registration or on the first day of Bible School. Adult and youth leaders are also needed. Please call the church office at 355-5218 to volunteer.

SPRING CLEANING????
Remember to save some items for the annual rummage sale held during the last week of July. AIM – Asbury in Mission – will use the proceeds to fund our relief efforts in Oakville, Cedar Rapids and anywhere that disasters happen in Iowa.
Thank you for your support! Global Ministries Committee

AUDIO AND POWERPOINT IN WORSHIP
We have had several calls from persons requesting to volunteer to help with the audio and/or PowerPoint presentations in the worship services. If you would like to be included in a training session to learn to run the PowerPoint at the church, please sign-up in the church office or contact Bob Mattison at 332-9889 or rmattison@platinum-corp.com.

AFGHAN MINISTRY NEEDS YOUR HELP
We now have afghan squares ready to be whip-stitched! You may pick up a bag in the church office. If you need directions, give Brenda a call! It is very easy to do. Of course, you may also continue to help by crocheting or knitting 7x7 inch squares and bringing them to the church office. Feel free to take whatever yarn you like from the basket in the East Narthex. Thank you for your help in this wonderful ministry our church provides to our members and as an outreach to our community.

BIRTHDAY CELEBRATION!!
Don Kuska is celebrating his 95th birthday on Saturday, June 12th from 2:00-4:00 with an Open House at Asbury’s Upper Fellowship Hall. Everyone is invited, but please, no gifts – “your presence is present enough.” Given by Danielle Temple, granddaughter.
