WOULD YOU LIKE TO HELP?
During the month of July Asbury’s Church and Society Commission will be collecting school supplies for Quad City area children who may not have basic supplies to begin their school year.
We will be a part of the First Day Fund – Student School Supply Drive which was started several years ago. We will join in their effort to provide supplies to every child in need. Suggested school items are crayons, markers, scissors, glue, glue sticks, pencils, erasers, rulers, folders, spiral notebooks, etc.
Supplies and monetary donations may be taken to the church office during the month of July. Offering envelopes will also be provided in Sunday bulletins during this time for your convenience as well. Please make checks payable to Asbury UMC with “First Day Fund” noted on the memo line.
Please consider donating to this community project – what a great way to help children! Church and Society thanks you for your participation once again!

ASBURY LIBRARY
Due to the necessary budget cuts this year, the Library Committee is seeking donations to help with necessary expenses. Asbury’s Library is one of the largest church libraries in the Conference, with more than 6,600 items including children’s, youth & adult sections with fiction and informational books, CDs, DVDs, etc. Monetary donations would be greatly appreciated. You may make your check to Asbury UMC, with “Library” indicated on the memo line. Please be sure to take the opportunity to visit our fine Library and check out books that are of interest to you!

AFGHAN MINISTRY NEEDS YOUR HELP
We now have afghan squares ready to be whip-stitched! You may pick up a bag of squares in the church office, there are 12 afghans that are ready to be assembled. If you need directions, give Brenda a call! It is very easy to do. Of course, you may also continue to help by crocheting or knitting 7x7 inch squares and bringing them to the church office. Feel free to take whatever yarn you like from the basket in the East Narthex. Thank you for your help in this wonderful ministry our church provides to our members and as an outreach to our community.

2010-2011 ASBURY PRESCHOOL REGISTRATION
Asbury Preschool is currently accepting applications for the 2010-2011 school year. The Tuesday-Thursday class is offered for 3-4 year olds and the Monday-Wednesday-Friday class is for children 4-5 years old. Please call 355-5218 for more information.

BOOK BAG SEWERS WANTED!
We are in need of volunteers to sew book bags for school kits to be taken to the November Ingathering. Six packets with material, instructions, and a sample book bag may be picked up in the church office. Our goal is 36 book bags. There is material for six bags in each of the packets. The sewing is simple, straight stitching and requires only your time, thread and talent! Bags need to be completed by October 15th. If you have questions, please call Bev Warner at 332-5042.
HELP CHURCHES UNITED RAISE $50,000
Churches United is looking for donations to help others. The funding for the services they provide are strained and some of their programs have totally run out of funds as of July 1. Churches United provides basic life necessities with direct service ministries of food pantries, meal sites and Winnie’s Place. Additionally, Churches United provided emergency funds, advocacy, ecumenical worship opportunities and educational opportunities as well. Please make a donation to help Churches United continue their programs and services to meet the needs of the community. Make your checks payable to Asbury UMC with “Churches United” noted on the memo line.

WILL YOU BRING TREATS????
Teachers and Helpers will be busy and hungry during V.B.S. week and many of you in the past have signed up to donate goodies for the “Teacher Treat Table.” We need you now! Please fill in and tear off the slip on the bottom of the blue bulletin insert and drop it in the Offering plate, or sign up in the Narthex at the V.B.S. registration table. Your treats are always appreciated and don’t last long! Thank you!

Our thoughts and prayers are with Carl and Rona Loweth on the death of Carl’s brother, Ken Loweth on June 30th.
